The FOCUS-IFAD Project Nagaland, in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong, Meghalaya, conducted a residential training programme from November 26 to December 9, 2024, aimed at empowering Innovation Fund start-ups and members of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). The initiative featured three focused capacity-building components, each tailored to address specific areas of growth and development:
10-Day Residential Training for 32 Sourcing Managers for FPOs (Nov 26 – Dec 4, 2024)
This programme aimed to develop skilled sourcing managers who can effectively manage supply chains while building robust networks connecting farmers, markets, and consumers. The training emphasized critical areas such as sourcing, negotiation, and logistics management to ensure the timely and efficient movement of agricultural products.
14-Day Residential Training for 20 Innovation Fund Start-ups (Nov 26 – Dec 8, 2024)
Designed to enhance entrepreneurial and innovative capacities, this programme equipped start-ups under FOCUS with the knowledge and tools needed to implement and scale innovative solutions in agriculture. The sessions provided practical insights, mentorship, and strategies for sustainable business growth.
10-Day Residential Training for 26 Master Trainers for FPOs (Nov 30 – Dec 9, 2024)
This training aimed to create a cadre of Master Trainers capable of supporting FPOs by imparting essential knowledge, skills, and tools. A total of 26 staff members from the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Government of Nagaland, participated. The programme focused on leadership, business management, and community engagement to empower FPOs to grow sustainably and effectively support their members.
IIM Shillong brought together a diverse team of resource persons, blending the knowledge of 15 experienced in-house faculty members with the insights of 10 distinguished visiting trainers. The visiting trainers were sourced from reputed institutions and organizations across India, including IIM Jammu, Ewing Christian College (University of Allahabad), the School of Biodiversity and Organic Farming, Swaraj Vidyapeeth, Dehradun, Uttaranchal, Meghalaya Basin Management Agency, and the Food Corporation of India, among others. This diverse and highly qualified team ensured a rich and holistic learning experience for all participants.
This comprehensive programme marks a significant step in strengthening the agricultural ecosystem in Nagaland by empowering FPOs and start-ups to drive sustainable growth and innovation.
